What is a Lip Lift?
A lip lift is a cosmetic surgery that shortens the space between the upper lip and the base of the nose, exposing more of the upper lip skin and creating a more balanced, youthful appearance. As we age, the lip may elongate, covering the upper teeth and reducing lip volume. A lip lift procedure corrects this by lifting the lip to restore facial proportions and highlight the cupid’s bow, enhancing the shape of the mouth and smile.

Who’s a Candidate?
This surgical procedure is suitable for most patients looking to enhance their upper and lower lips without relying on repeat injectable treatments. Specifically, a lip lift may be right for you if you:
- Have a long upper lip and wish to shorten its distance to the nose
- Desire a fuller lip or increased tooth visibility when smiling
- Feel that lip fillers have not achieved your aesthetic goals
- Want a permanent alternative to lip augmentation
- Are in generally good health and a non-smoker
What to Expect During the Procedure
Lip lift surgery is typically performed under local anesthesia and tailored to each patient’s unique facial structure and aesthetic goals. Several techniques are available, including the subnasal lip lift, corner lip lift, and central lip lift procedures. Each is designed to enhance different aspects of the upper lip and the surrounding area. Dr. Eidson carefully evaluates each patient to determine the most appropriate technique, prioritizing natural-looking results and ensuring that the lip lift scar is placed discreetly and meticulously closed to minimize visibility.
These techniques generally involve carefully placed incisions—often hidden within the natural crease beneath the nose—to gently elevate the upper lip, increase red lip show, and refine the shape of the cupid’s bow. Depending on your anatomy and goals, the procedure may also subtly lift the corners of the mouth or focus on enhancing the central portion of the lip for more definition.

Recovery from a lip lift surgery is generally straightforward and well-tolerated. Patients may experience some swelling and mild discomfort around the mouth area for the first few days. To support healing and minimize side effects, it is recommended to keep the head elevated for the first 48 hours and apply cold compresses as needed to reduce swelling. Patients should also avoid strenuous activities for at least one to two weeks and carefully follow all post-operative instructions provided by Dr. Eidson to ensure proper care of the incision site.
