What Are Facial Implants?
Facial implants are a feat of modern medical technology. They’re materials that are designed to mimic natural tissues in the face, and they’re made to alter and enhance your facial features. They can vary significantly in size, and through consultation and examination, we can help you decide which type of implant is right for you. They’re most commonly used in the jaw, the chin, and the cheek area. They’re positioned within the face during a surgical procedure.

Unfortunately, facial implants aren’t right for everyone! Ideal candidates are those whose skulls have grown fully. They’re people who struggle with issues stemming from the appearance of the chin and jaw, or who want a more pronounced contour of the face. Candidates are also generally healthy, and they should either not smoke or be willing to stop smoking before the procedure and during the healing process. Candidates are also willing to be open and honest about their medical history and expectations. We’ll go over risks during our consultation so you can make an informed decision and feel confident going into the procedure.
What to Expect During a Facial Implants Procedure
After we’ve decided that this procedure is a good fit for you, we’ll give you everything you need to know in terms of preparation. You might need to stop or adjust certain medications, like blood thinners, to make sure everything goes smoothly. Also, make sure that someone is able to drive you home and take care of you afterward.
After we give you anesthesia, we’ll begin the procedure. The techniques we use will change depending on the area of concern and the results you’re looking for. For cheek implants, a cut will be made in the mouth and the implant will be inserted. For chin implants, we also might make the incision inside the mouth, or below the chin. For jaw implants, mouth incisions are also common, but are typically placed further back. After the implant is placed and adjusted, we’ll close everything up, and you can begin the healing process.
Facial Implants Aftercare
You’ll leave wearing bandages to make sure that the implant stays in place as you heal. We’ll give you a detailed plan on how to clean the area and when to replace bandages. We might give you medication to prevent infection or to manage pain. You’ll want to limit unnecessary contact to the area while you’re healing to make sure that you’re on your way to being able to flaunt your new features with renewed confidence.
