What Is a Neck Lift?
A neck lift is also known as a “lower rhytidectomy,” and it’s a surgical procedure that lets us tighten and remove the skin around the neck and the jaw. This can minimize the appearance of many concerns. If you’re struggling with extra skin below the chin and neck or the appearance of jowls, a neck lift might be an excellent option for you.

Not everyone will benefit from or be a good fit for a neck lift procedure. This is a good option for people who are struggling with looseness of the skin around the jaw and/or neck, or for people who feel that the appearance of their neck doesn’t match the appearance of their face. Good candidates are in good health and either don’t smoke or are willing to stop smoking. Candidates should also be open about their expectations during their consultation–a neck lift can provide incredible results, but it won’t be able to fully stop the natural effects of aging. We’ll go over risks with you, as well as your medical history, to make sure that this procedure is a perfect fit for you and your needs.
What to Expect During a Neck Lift Procedure
We’ll make sure you’re as prepared as possible on the day of the surgery. You might need to stop or alter certain medications, especially ones that increase the risk of bleeding. This will ensure that things can go as smoothly as possible. Depending on the type of anesthesia we decide on, you may need to stop eating for a certain number of hours before the procedure. Also, make sure that you have a ride home and someone to keep you comfortable during the first couple of days after your surgery.
Once we’ve given you anesthesia, we’ll start the procedure by making one or more incisions. The results that you’re looking for will change the techniques that we use and the type of incision we make. Excess skin and fat might be removed, and we’ll reposition and tighten the muscle and tissue underneath. Depending on whether you’re getting another procedure at the same time, like facial liposuction, this procedure can take one to several hours. After we’ve achieved your desired shape, we’ll close everything up and make sure you’re good to return home and relax.
Neck Lift Aftercare
The results of your neck lift will take some time to be fully visible, but once they’re there, they’re long-lasting and youthful. We’ll give you a specific care plan so you can heal comfortably at home. You’ll need to wear bandages as you leave the procedure, and we might give you small tubes to help with any drainage. We might give you an antibiotic and/or medication to help with pain that can’t be managed with over-the-counter options. You’ll need to keep your head straight and elevated while you’re healing, and it’s important to not use an icepack, as this can cause issues with blood flow. We’ll let you know when you can take up your normal routine–until then, get some rest so you can enjoy your results as soon as possible!
