Facial Implants: What You Need to Know
Facial implants are solid, biocompatible implants placed surgically to add projection, volume, and structural definition to specific areas of the face. The most commonly placed implants address the chin, jaw angles, and cheeks, areas where bone structure may create asymmetry or a lack of definition that does not reflect how you feel on the inside.
At TruForm Surgery, facial implant procedures are performed by a husband-and-wife team. Dr. Brittany Eidson is double-board-certified in facial cosmetic surgery, a distinction that means she brings both surgical depth and an artistic eye to every procedure. This dual training is especially meaningful for implant placement, where understanding the underlying skeletal anatomy is as important as the aesthetic outcome.
Because TruForm Surgery combines oral and maxillofacial surgery with facial cosmetic surgery and med spa services under one roof, patients from Genoa and the surrounding communities benefit from a fully integrated approach. Implants may be combined with complementary procedures when appropriate, and every plan is built around your individual anatomy, goals, and timeline.
Are You a Candidate for Facial Implants?
The right candidate for facial implants is typically someone in good overall health who has realistic expectations and a specific structural concern they would like to address. Many patients from Genoa, Brighton, and the broader Livingston County area come in describing a chin that recedes, cheekbones that lack prominence, or a jawline that feels soft or undefined. Non-surgical options such as facial fillers may work beautifully for mild concerns, but implants may offer a more lasting structural change for patients whose goals require it.
Common benefits that well-suited candidates may experience include:
Improved facial proportion and balance
A more defined chin or jawline contour
Enhanced cheek projection that appears natural to your features
Structural support that complements other cosmetic procedures
A refreshed, more confident appearance that reflects your sense of self
During your consultation at TruForm Surgery, Dr. Eidson and her team will take the time to understand your goals and evaluate whether facial implants are the most appropriate path forward for you. Request a consultation with TruForm Surgery today.
What to Expect at TruForm Surgery
Your experience at TruForm Surgery begins with a thorough, unhurried consultation. Our team works hard to make that first visit feel welcoming rather than clinical. Dr. Eidson will review your facial anatomy, discuss your concerns openly, and walk you through which implant options may align with your goals.
The procedure itself is typically performed under general anesthesia or sedation and takes between one and two hours depending on the number and type of implants placed. Most incisions are placed discreetly inside the mouth or in small natural folds of skin, which means visible scarring is generally minimal. Most patients experience some swelling and mild discomfort in the days following surgery, and many find they can return to light activity within one to two weeks, though individual recovery timelines vary.
Many patients ask whether the results will look natural. This is one of the most common concerns we hear, and it is one the TruForm team takes seriously. The goal is never an altered or exaggerated appearance; it is a more balanced version of you. The team’s training in both the structural and aesthetic dimensions of the face helps guide implant sizing and placement toward results that feel like your own features, refined.
For patients who want to explore complementary options, procedures such as a facelift or facial liposuction may be discussed as part of a broader surgical plan when clinically appropriate.

How do I know if I need a facial implant or if a non-surgical option could work?
This is one of the most important conversations to have during a consultation. Non-surgical options such as Restylane or other dermal fillers may address mild volume concerns effectively. Facial implants are typically better suited for patients who want a more lasting structural change. Dr. Eidson will evaluate your anatomy and goals and give you an honest, individualized recommendation.
What is the recovery timeline after facial implant surgery?
Most patients experience swelling, tenderness, and some bruising in the first one to two weeks following surgery. Many patients return to light daily activities within seven to ten days, though more strenuous activity is typically restricted for four to six weeks. Full resolution of swelling and final results may take several months to fully appreciate. Your surgical team will provide specific aftercare instructions tailored to your procedure.
When will I see results from my facial implants?
Initial changes in facial structure are visible fairly soon after surgery, though swelling can make it difficult to fully assess the outcome in the early weeks. Most patients begin to see a clearer picture of their results at the four to six week mark, with continued refinement over several months as tissues settle. Your surgeon will schedule follow-up visits to monitor your healing progress throughout this period. Individual results may vary.
Can facial implants be combined with other procedures?
In many cases, yes. Patients sometimes choose to address multiple concerns during a single surgical plan, which may include procedures such as buccal fat removal or a neck lift alongside implant placement. Whether combination surgery is appropriate depends on your health, goals, and surgical complexity. Dr. Eidson will review your full picture during the consultation and help you understand all available options.
